Clough & Willis advises LBP Optics on purchase of Symons Mirror Technology

Bury and Bolton law firm Clough & Willis has acted for LBP Optics on its purchase of Symons Mirror Technology for an undisclosed sum.

Bedfordshire-based LBP Optics, the sister company of leading infrared optics manufacturer ULO Optics, is a world-leading manufacturer of metal mirrors for industrial laser, scientific and defence applications.  Symons Mirror Technology specialises in precision single point diamond machining.  The acquisition by LBP Optics marks continued expansion into niche areas by the LBP and ULO Optics group within its core market sectors, following the acquisition by ULO of Laser Beam Products in 2017.

The team at Clough & Willis was led by commercial solicitor Guy Lachlan. The firm’s advice included drafting and negotiating purchase documentation as well as advising on real estate, intellectual property and transfer of key employees.

Paul Maclennan - managing director of LBP Optics - said: “We have known Symons for a number of years. It has an excellent track record in the industry, so we were keen to acquire the business when the opportunity presented itself. The addition of the business to our portfolio will help develop and sustain our expansion in national and international markets.”

Guy Lachlan added: “This was an enjoyable deal to work on: the long-standing close business relationships between the clients on both sides made for comfortable negotiations as the transaction progressed.  The fact that it was a good fit for both sides meant there was a strong will to progress it at speed to a good conclusion.”
