Chris Macwilliam

Partner & Head of Litigation

0800 083 0815chris.macwilliam@clough-willis.co.uk

Chris joined Clough & Willis as a trainee solicitor in 1981. He qualified in 1983, becoming a partner 3 years later.

Chris has been a litigator all his professional life. He is a personal injury specialist and also has expertise in employment matters.

Personal Injury

Chris acts for people, locally and nationally, who have been injured in accidents, fighting to secure the compensation they deserve. He has a particular interest in work place accidents. Chris believes passionately in an employer’s duty to ensure the safety of its workers and recognises that some employers still do not take this duty seriously enough. Chris also specialises in acting for clients who have been injured in motor vehicle and road traffic accidents, slipping accidents, accidents whilst on holiday in the UK and abroad, accidents caused by animals and injuries from criminal assaults.

Chris has dealt with professional negligence claims against solicitors, doctors, dentists, accountants, surveyors and other professionals. His approach is to find the quickest possible way to resolve such claims for his clients and that doesn’t necessarily involve expensive court proceedings. Mediation and Joint Settlement Meetings are possible avenues which may achieve a better outcome for his clients.

Chris is a member of the Employment Lawyers Association. He has acted for both employers and employees in Employment Tribunal cases and has advised employers on issues such as redundancy, terms of employment and dismissal. He works with owner managed businesses and with established HR professionals - both in-house and consultants – and will draft and advise businesses on HR policies and employment contracts, including restrictive covenants
