No Win No Fee* Road Traffic Accident Claim Solicitors
The team of road traffic accident compensation solicitors at Clough Willis have put together a list of some basic steps to follow after a road accident. Carry out as many of the steps as possible.
- Stop! You must stop after a road traffic accident.
- Keep calm! No matter how angry you may feel.
- Write down the make, model, colour and registration number of all vehicles involved in the accident.
- Write down the name, address and insurance details of the other driver. You are entitled to these details by law.
- Give the other driver your name, address and insurance details. He/she is entitled to these details by law.
- Write down the damage caused to all vehicles involved.
- Write down the name, address and telephone number of any witnesses.
- If the other driver drives off, admits to driving a stolen vehicle, appears to have been drinking or if you feel it is necessary anyway - call the police.
- Draw a sketch of the accident scene (show road junctions, traffic lights and the position of all vehicles involved).
- Write down what happened as quickly as possible.
- If you can, take photographs of the accident site and the damage to your vehicles - use you mobile phone.
- Report the accident to your insurance company, even if the accident wasn't your fault. Your insurance policy will require you to do this. This is not the same as making a claim under your policy.
- Get medical treatment for any injuries you sustain (even if symptoms don't appear until some time afterwards).
- Seek advice from a specialist personal injury solicitor.
