Richard graduated with a Law degree from The Victoria University of Manchester. He continued his education at the Guildford College of Law before completing his articles at Clayton Castle and Monks, qualifying as a solicitor in 1968.
Richard started his career as a solicitor with Clough and Willis in 1969, becoming a partner in 1972 and a Senior Partner in 2003. Richard headed up the Commercial Law department and specialises in corporate law and commercial property, acting for a number of large organisations across the North West.
Richard was a remarkably talented and gifted lawyer with a brilliant mind. He handled many complex, intellectually demanding & high value commercial deals and never failed to impress clients, colleagues and opponents alike with his knowledge, skill and professionalism. And he brought those qualities to all his work - from the multi million pound takeover deal to a routine house purchase. He looked after all his clients in the same way and inspired tremendous loyalty from them.
As part of the business community he formed successful relationships with other professionals - lawyers, accountants, surveyors, commercial agents, bankers and many of these became his friends.
As a lawyer Richard was universally respected and admired and people felt a genuine, warmth and affection towards him. And that was because of the nature of the man and how he treated people. He was a warm, witty, friendly, even handed and helpful man who treated everyone fairly and with respect.
Richard will be sadly missed by all his past and present colleagues at Clough & Willis.
