Clough & Willis' Private Client Department was delighted to recently be involved in an event as part of National Dementia Awareness Week. Organised by Pinfold Lane Day Centre and Bury MBC, Richard Phillips - head of the Private Client Department - and his colleague, Ciara Hannawin, were invited to attend the event as they are regular contributors to the carers' support network. They offered practical guidance to attendees - who included both carers and patients - on a number of the key issues dementia sufferers and their loved-ones face. They also provided general advice about Powers of Attorney - the process of choosing someone to manage your financial affairs and make welfare decisions should there come a time when you are unable to do so yourself, and Deputyship Applications - the complex and lengthy process a carer, friend or solicitor has to go through in order to obtain control of a person's affairs once that person has lost their mental capacity.
Richard commented, 'Pinfold Lane does an amazing job and provides first-class support to dementia sufferers and their families so we hope our advice and guidance was of use to the people we met. As a firm, Clough & Willis passionately believes in what Pinfold Lane is doing and we look forward to strengthening our relationship with the team over the coming months and years.'
Susan McFarland, centre manager at the Pinfold Lane Centre said, 'Dementia affects people on many levels so it is vital sufferers organise their legal affairs as soon as possible. Richard and Ciara's attendance added real value to the event as they provided a human face to what can be a very daunting process.'
